Add-On

Also known as: Addon, Add On

An optional one-time chip top-up offered at the end of the rebuy period. Usually +chipEV when the chips you get are cheap relative to the blinds.

The end-of-rebuy top-up

An add-on is an optional, one-time chip purchase offered to everyone once at the end of the rebuy period — regardless of your current stack. Unlike a rebuy you don't need to be short to take it.

The decision is almost pure chips-per-dollar math: take the add-on whenever the chips you receive are cheap relative to their value at the current blinds. Because add-ons usually hand you a full starting stack (or more) for less than the original buy-in, they're +chipEV in the large majority of cases — in soft rebuy events you should essentially always take it.

In standard rebuy MTTs, snap-take the add-on.

Example

At the end of the rebuy period you can add 10,000 chips for $100 while the average stack is only ~8,000 and blinds are 200/400. You're buying 25 big blinds — more than the table average — for $100, a clearly good chips-per-dollar ratio. Snap take it: declining would leave you below average for no reason.
